Finding Passion

Finding passion is difficult.  When a person has passion for something and pursues that passion, he never feels he is working.  It is way too enjoyable to be considered work.  Igniting passion is a challenge that many people face.  And it really is a shame.  When you have found your passion and are working on and with your passion, you world completely and totally changes.  The life force in you finds new expression.  Your work consumes you.  Your passion spills over and excites other people.  Passion creates a different life.

So how exactly do you find your passion?

Here is an exercise that you can try.  Schedule some quiet time when you wont be disturbed for 20-30 minutes. Prepare a relaxing drink (hot tea – not whiskey) .  If you are partial to quiet or relaxing music play it quietly in the background.  then start writing every project or program you would like to accomplish sometime in your life.  Do not try to figure out how you will do it.  Forget if it is possible or not.  Just write.  Write everything that you would love to do.  Keep the list going for at least 20 minutes.

As you go through the list you will notice you feel more energized by some things than other things.  The things that increase your energy the most are things that create more passion in you.  Find one or two on the list that really excite you.  Find ways to begin working on them.  If you don’t have a total plan, don’t worry about it.  Just the act of getting involved and passionate about something makes interesting things start to happen in life.

As you get used to working in your passion, feeling your passion and sharing your passion, don’t be surprised if things that in the past sucked energy out of your life start to disappear.  Those energy depleting source will find someplace that is easier to work.  It is too hard to try to deplete energy if there is real passion feeding energy.  It is easier to find someone who is reactive and doesn’t have any passion in the first place.  To bring the drain to them and help them complain about everyday issues is a lot easier that to fight passion.  Give it a try – you’ll never look back.
